- Honda Prelude sold just 174 units in December, a slow early start.

The Honda Prelude is back and it’s off to a slow start as the model only generated 174 sales in its first full month in the United States. That’s a significant increase over the 30 sold in November, but the model is trailing other coupes by a significant margin.

While it’s too early to read into things, the Prelude was outsold in December by the Subaru BRZ, which found 229 takers. It was also beaten by the outgoing Toyota Supra (277) and GR86 (576). Furthermore, it appears the Prelude did worse than the Nissan Z as the company managed to sell 665 units in the fourth quarter, which equates to over 221 per month.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as the Prelude is still finding its footing and dealers have saddled the car with huge markups. If that wasn’t bad enough, pricing starts at $42,000 before a $1,195 destination fee. That’s pretty steep for a 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) hybrid, especially when you consider $32,190 will get you a Civic Si out the door.
Putting the Prelude aside, the redesigned Passport has been a smashing success as sales are up 69.8% for the year. The Prologue EV, Odyssey, and Ridgeline also had a banner year as sales were up between 6.7% and 18.7%.

However, it wasn’t all good news as HR-V sales fell 1.8% to 148,771 units. The Pilot also tumbled 12.1%, although an updated model recently began arriving at dealerships. Honda implied the drop was due to “production constraints,” but we’ve heard that excuse before even when dealers had months of supply.

On the topic of disappointing numbers, car sales continued to fall. The Accord was off 7.7% as the company only managed to move 150,196 units last year. The Civic was also down, but a more modest 1.4%.

Overall, Honda had a mediocre year as sales climbed 0.4% to 1,297,144 units.

Acura Killed Off The Two Models That Saw Sales Grow
Over at Acura, things aren’t pretty as the only two models that saw sales growth were the TLX and ZDX. Ironically, the company has already killed off both vehicles. The sedan died in July as the brand aimed to reduce its car lineup to “better align with the evolving needs of our customers and the changing landscape of the automotive industry.”
While the Integra survived, it had a rough year as sales fell 17.3% to 20,178 units. On the bright side, the 2026 model is better equipped and only costs $400 more than its predecessor.

The good news continues with the ADX, which found 20,133 buyers last year. The entry-level crossover starts at $35,000 and comes nicely equipped with heated leatherette front seats, a moonroof, a wireless smartphone charger, and a 9-inch infotainment system.
Like Honda, Acura had a so-so year as sales climbed 0.8% to 133,433 units. That put them well behind competitors such as Cadillac (173,515) and Lexus (370,260). However, the luxury brand easily beat Infiniti and their dismal 52,846 sales.
