This 1986 High Speed pinball machine is a high-speed driving-themed arcade game that is one of approximately 17,080 examples produced by Williams Electronics Games of Chicago, Illinois. Features include a button to start gameplay, a multicolor-illuminated playfield, flippers, bumpers, and targets. The cabinet is outfitted with displays, double coin slots, and a glass playfield cover. The seller tells us they purchased the machine earlier this year from a pinball collector who owned the game for many years. A refresh of the machine, which included rebuilding the flippers, replacing the bands, installing LED bulbs, and adjusting and cleaning the mechanisms, was completed under current ownership. The game is configured for free play, and the coin mechanisms are retained. This High Speed pinball machine is now offered at no reserve with an instruction manual in Woodstock, Connecticut.
Williams Electronics Games was founded in Chicago in 1943, and the company produced its first pinball machine in 1964. High Speed was introduced in January 1986, and Steve Ritchie is credited with the game’s concept and design. Ritchie was caught speeding in his 1979 Porsche 928 in Lodi, California, and accused of driving 146 miles per hour, which served as the inspiration for the game.

The playfield is covered in glass and features five stand-up targets, three flippers, three pop bumpers, three spinning targets, two slingshots, and a kick-out hole. High Speed was the first solid-state pinball machine to use automatic replay percentaging. Players can launch balls onto the playfield using the spring-loaded plunger, and multiple balls can be in play simultaneously.

The illuminated backglass depicts two police officers in the cockpit of a cruiser pursuing a speeding car on the highway. Accumulated points and gameplay information are shown on displays within the backglass. A police beacon light is positioned on top of the backbox.

The front panel is outfitted with double coin slots, coin-return receptacles, a game start key, a shifter ball launcher, and a lockable door.

An unopened bag of exterior trim add-ons is included in the sale.
